My technical expertise covers a range of Alpine feilds:
Search and Rescue – alpine cliff rescue ACR
I have been involved as a volunteer for quarter of a century in Alpine cliff Rescue from when I was based in Arthurs Pass, Christchurch, Mt Cook and for the last 15 years here in Wanaka, where I have spearheaded the development of one of New Zealand’s finest and well equipped ACR teams – LandSAR Wanaka ACR
If you are looking for the best and most comprehensive advice on the lastest , safety techniques for search and rescue, give me a call – I have 30 years of SAR experience and knowledge which may be of help to you, your team or organisation.
Lake Hawea Contact Epic mountain bike race/event.
For the last 7 years I have been providing safety services as the course safety officer for this great event – this uses my SAR logistics, emergency management and co-ordiation skills and knowledge on a part of NZ that is remote for many of these competitors.
I have been and am a senior trainer and examiner for the NZMGA for Hard ice, Climbing guide and alpine trekking guide qualifications program and heavily involved in developing and consolidating the NZMGA guides training program and maintaining its international standards.
Icelandic Mountain Guides
For this Iconic Icelandic company, I set up and developed a hard ice guides qualification scheme and structure over the last 8 years and currently return to Iceland each June to assess their level Two hard ice guide courses. It is envisaged that this structure of qualifications will be adopted by the Icelandic hard ice and mountain guiding industry and is on track to be so.
Currently I am engaged as a technical expert in Hard ice guiding and Alpine trekking guiding , contracted by skills active. This utilizes my quarter of a century involvment with west coast glacier guiding and understanding of alpine skills and standards necessary for the safe operation of guiding in the NZ alpine enviroment.
