Be guided in the spectacular Southern Alps by one of NZ’s most experienced Mountain Guides.
A guided mountain climbing trip with me can achieve a mountain adventure of a fine selection of classic New Zealand peaks with my 30 years of experience and the associated safety benefits this brings when calling the shots and organizing the trip.
Alpinism at its best in New Zealand
The NZ southern alps has spectacular snow and ice summits, that offer a feeling of wilderness. Fortunately, some of the best of this can be accessed by helicopter, making for pleasant access and egress, and there are medium sized and reasonably comfortable alpine huts to base from.
Climbing a peak or several peaks in NewZealand is like a mini expedition. One of the main reasons being the geographical situation and location of being in the ‘roaring forties’, so very much weather dependent. Everything on a kiwi trip revolves around the weather as it influences greatly access, egress, snow conditions and climbing conditions. NZ peaks are fantastic objectives, but can often involve complex decision making – YOU can benefit from my 30 years of kiwi mountaineering.
As a small , boutique operation I often can offer a weather contingency. It is indeed ideal if climbers have a day or two up their sleeves in their travel plans/international flight plans for this contingency, giving success of the ascent(s) a much better chance.
Pure Alpinism
My guided mountain climbing services, I offer to individuals and teams of two (depending on the difficulty of the objective(s).)
I specialize in trips to the West Coast of the Southern Alps, where there are a good number of classic, easy and moderate difficulty spectacular snow and mixed peaks. The views from the West Coast neves down to the surf only 20km distant are quite remarkable and makes this a special area to climb. This however sits in a complex environment of glaciation and weather. Mountaineering here has its challenges, but the rewards are worth it.
The kiwi weather is very affected by the North/South direction of the Southern Alps. With a predominant Westerly air stream, it is often chalk and cheese between the weather East or West.
We have great mountains on the Eastern side of the southern alps too, so if the weather forecast is not looking suitable for the Western side of the main divide, East we go.
