I have been involved as a volunteer for over a quarter of a century in  Alpine cliff Rescue from  when I was based in Arthurs Pass, Christchurch, Mt Cook and for the last 25 years here in Wanaka, where I have spearheaded the development of one of New Zealand’s finest and well equipped ACR teams – LandSAR Wanaka ACR

For  11 years I providied safety services as the course safety officer for this great event – this used my SAR logistics, emergency management and co-ordiation skills and knowledge on a part of NZ that is remote for many of these competitors.

I am currently the Training officer for the new Zealand Mountain Guides Association,  and have been  and am  a senior trainer and examiner for the NZMGA for Hard ice, Climbing guide and alpine trekking guide qualifications  program and  heavily involved in developing and consolidating the NZMGA guides training program and maintaining its international standards.

For this Iconic Icelandic company,  I set up and developed a hard ice  guides qualification scheme and structure over  8 years. It was envisaged that this structure of qualifications will be adopted by the Icelandic hard ice and mountain guiding industry and has become so.
