Private mountain guiding Switzerland

All the way from Hokitika to Switzerland. Jono and Clara have been enjoying a big trip to see the sights of Switzerland and booked a trip with me to experience the big mountains of Switzerland.

A quite tricky week of weather was the challenge , however we managed ascents of the 4000m Weissmeis and the  4000m Allanlinhorn plus a day on inspirational rock near Leysin.

Rock climbing in Switzerland

Arriving is Switzerland for the 2017 season it was nice and hot. So what better thing to do than to go rock climbing in the Italian part of Switzerland – Ticino.

Ponte Brolla is a great little spot with granite slabs, 30 degree temps and a great campground with alpine river to cool off in the afternoons.

Back alpine climbing

Late Feb/early March Gaz and long time client, friend and business mentor headed for a few days to the head of the Tasman Glacier, and from Kelman hut, got Phils alpine climbing program re started.  The summit of Mt Alymer was acheived and a visit to Tasman Saddle hut (which was being renovated by the DOC mt Cook crew) – many a night has previously been had by Phil, gaz and friends, particularly on ski touring adventures based at that hut 🙂

A steady trip down the upper neve to a helicopter pick up at malte brun heli pickup site  was the finale to a great trip

Well done Phil for all the effort put in to enable this to happen.

Alpinism in Europe

In July, Mountain Guide Gary Dickson  did two trips around the MonteRosa massif – the classic “spagetti tour” which involves alpinism in both Switzerland and Italy, enjoying the spectacular scenery of this alpine world and the excellent alpine culture of Swiss and Italian mountain huttes/refugios.

Wanaka, New Zealand

Our main base is Wanaka here in Central Otago, New Zealand.

Lake Wanaka NZ

We live on the shores of Lake Wanaka. The climate in Wanaka is dry as it is out of the mountain weather so ideal for preparing for a trip or hanging out waiting for a weather change before going into the big mountains.

Wanaka as a town is just the right size for having the conviences of modern living, but not overly busy. We have nice recreation options such as rock climbing, sailing, mountain biking, wine tasting….

Wanaka is idealy suited as a base for a mountain guiding operation as it is central for access to the southern alps. Mt Aspiring national park is at our door step, Mt Cook National Park is 2.5hrs drive away and Fox glacier, gateway to the Fox and Franz Josef glacier region is 3 hrs away.

Queenstown has an international airport or connects easily for our guests to international flights out of Christchurch, Wellington or Auckland, and is only 40  minutes drive away over the crown range for us to come and pick you up – yep , nice and handy.
