Rock climbing in Switzerland

Switzerland has amazing rock walls and superb multipitch climbs on them.

Iris and Gaz climbed at Sanetsch ( 2240m alt) yesterday – a beautiful cloudless, sunny alpine climbing day in Switzerland.

Back in NZ – Iris got an alert on her phone here in Switzerland – chains required on the Crown range , Wanaka, NZ.  Yep, the winter snows have well and truly arrived in New Zealand setting the winter snow pack up beautifully for ski touring in September/October.

Enjoy you alpine passions….

Climbing in Switzerland

Sunday/Monday, Anand and Gary headed to the Cabane d’Orny for some classic Swiss alpinism. After the hike to the cabane , they enjoyed some rock climbing on granite routes behind the  hut in the afternoon sun.  Then next morning they went up the ‘Orny glacier to the Trient plateau and up the rocky ridge on the left side of the north face of the Tete blanche, then over to the Summit of the Petite Fourche, then a descent to a fixed rappel point, over the bergshrund and a cruise back to the Cabane for a well deserved rosti…..

Aarons 50th will be well remembered. As a starter, an ascent of the very beautiful Mt Blanc du Cheilon, followed by a stay in a historic mountain hotel.  Midweek two multipitch rock ascents, one in the Rhone valley and one high above the Glacier d Orny, and a finish with an ascent of the NW granite ridge of the Tete Blanche and the Petite fourche.

Cheer Aaron.

Arriving is Switzerland for the 2017 season it was nice and hot. So what better thing to do than to go rock climbing in the Italian part of Switzerland – Ticino.

Ponte Brolla is a great little spot with granite slabs, 30 degree temps and a great campground with alpine river to cool off in the afternoons.
