Dolomites climbing

Early September – Gary and Iris traveled from Switzerland via many twists and turns in their little car to the magnificent Dolomites for some fantastic alpine rock climbing.

Switzerland climbing 2016

Grant has just booked with me a week of mountaineering  in the Swiss alps in August.  You too can come and join the alpinism and ski team and enjoy the massive supermarket of mountaineering peaks and routes with good  access, light packs, excellent mountain accomodation in Switzerland.

On his recent trip in the NZ Alps, Ant is inspired to get into more mountaineering again and will maybe join me in the swiss alps too………………… what about you?

From climbing in Europe to ski touring in NZ

A mountaineering guest of ISM – International School of Mountaineering – sent this feedback about a week with our chief guide Gaz in the Swiss Alps during last August:

Hi Gary,
Just a quick note to say thank you for a great week in the hills last week, even if the weather didn’t fully cooperate.  Your deep knowledge of “the alpine”, your participation in international guide diplomacy/policy making, your teaching abilities (and patience), your local community involvement, your broad and varied interests, your good company, and of course your sense of humor are nothing short of inspiring.  All of the rest of us have a lot to work on…

Thanks Ed!

Climbing in Europe, mountaineering instruction

Another rainy start to the week in Leysin but as per this weather link the forcast is not too bad for the next couple of days. Gaz and his ISM team went from rock climbing in St Triphon to Orny hut in the heavy downpours. This was followed by an absolutely stunning day yesterday, climbing Tête Blanche and Petite Fourche. Today, they relocated to Arolla via another rock climbing and/or rope and knot work session at Dorénaz with more rain, a real mixed bag of xxx

Beginning of July and the coming two months will be gone in a flash. The European Alps season for Gary is booked out with him having given his time to ISM, the International School of Mountaineering with whom he started in 1997. That is, except one week in August, special project with Phil & Barb from Wanaka, more about this at a later stage. End of last month, Gaz went off to Orny hut, a favorite play ground: another hut higher up (Trient) great peaks all around, fabulous rock climbing on granite too and there is a real chance of finding your very own crystal.

L’Aiguille du Tour, 3540 m altitude and on the border of Switzerland-France was climbed by Phil, Ian and Lee plus our favorite mountain guide of course. They continued to Arolla and the wonderful Cabane des Dix, via Pas de Chèvre, ladders and awesome scenery. Mont Blanc de Cheilon was a goal with visibility zero and finally the summit of La Luette (3548m) the culmination of the week. Next is a trip to Grand Paradiso in Italy (starting with breakfast in Switzerland) and later in the week Mont Blanc, Chamonix – France.
